Research at ASG
ASG produces evidence-based research that addresses Africa’s governance challenges and informs real policy decisions.
Overview
Rooted in Africa’s own history and lived experience
ASG emphasises evidence-based research that addresses Africa’s unique challenges, producing work that informs policy and governance decisions.
ASG’s research is not imported and applied. It is rooted in Africa’s own history, political economy and lived governance experience, and it seeks practical, home-grown solutions that serve the continent. It supports the institution’s teaching and its policy engagement, and it is designed to be used.

Research in practiceResearch in practice
Research in practice
ASG’s research is meant to be used. Where findings are relevant to a policy question, ASG works to bring them into the room: through policy briefs, roundtables and convenings, and through the teaching of the institution.
Practical learning is central to this. Case studies and fieldwork connect the research to the problems practitioners actually face.
- Policy briefs that translate findings into options
- Roundtables and convenings with policymakers and practitioners
- Case studies written from African institutions and reform experience
- Applied student work through field placements and capstones
